TPS applications online: Certain Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applicants can now file I-821 and I-765 forms online!

USCIS announced that certain TPS applicants may now file Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, online.

  • TPS applicants filing an initial registration application may apply for TPS online if they are eligible nationals of Burma, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, or Yemen or persons without nationality who last habitually resided in one of those countries.
  • Applicants may file Form I-821 as a stand-alone form and/or add Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, at the same time. These applications will be the first forms available for simultaneous online filing.
  • To file Form I-821 online, eligible TPS applicants must first visit my.uscis.gov to create a USCIS online account.
  • At this time, the option to file Form I-821 online is only available to initial TPS applicants from Burma, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. All other initial TPS applicants and current beneficiaries who re-register under the extension of a TPS designation for another country must continue to file a physical Form I-821. If an ineligible initial or re-registered applicant files Form I-821 online, he or she runs the risk of having his or her application rejected and losing his or her payment.
  • Applicants will be able to obtain a receipt or case number at the time they complete the applications instead of waiting multiple weeks to receive it by physical mail.
  • Offering online filing of Form I-821 will make the application process more efficient, secure and convenient for more applicants.
  • Applicants who file a physical Form I-821, or any other USCIS form, can still create an online account to track the status of their form throughout the adjudication process, even if they did not file the form online.

Attorney Sandoval encourages all applicants who qualify for TPS to submit their applications as soon as possible, as some registration periods are quickly coming to an end. For assistance with TPS applications, please contact our office at 954-306-6921 or here.
