President Biden's Administration's effort to reunite children who are still separated from their parents.
The Biden Administration has identified nearly 4,000 children who were separated from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border between July 1, 2017, and Jan. 20, 2021, under Trump’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy and related initiatives, according to the latest report from the Task Force assigned to the task by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) this June on family reunification.
The press release announcing the report also stated that the task force created in February “does not have a confirmed reunification record” for 2,127 of the children, but 1,786 children have been reunited with a parent and continue to work to reunite families separated at the border.
The process to reunite these children with their parents is quite slow. According to a recent Reuters report, only 7 children have been reunited with their parents by this task force since February. One official indicated that the agency “chose to intentionally start slow” as they work progressively to overcome this difficult situation.
